In the distant annals of time, the genesis of this masterpiece depicted a solitary Mister Fox traversing a barren snowscape. While aesthetically pleasing, akin to many of my creations, it seemed incomplete, lacking a certain essence; an intangible quality that whispered of unfinished business. Enter the Pilgrims…
Soon after, the lone Fox found companionship in an unlikely pair: a Toucan and a Hare, marking their inaugural appearance in our fantastical realm. The precise reason for their inclusion remains shrouded in the mists of history, yet their presence has become indispensable, anchoring the essence of the collection that ensued. It was during this epoch that the iconic design for the ‘headlamp’ made its debut, leaving an indelible mark on the canvas, later refined in ‘Night Mail’.
Moreover, the canvas bore witness to the inaugural appearance of balloons and streamers in Ann’s work. While recurring motifs in subsequent works, balloons hold a deeper significance, symbolizing pure and innocent magic. Delve beneath the surface, and each balloon conceals a secret; a hidden narrative waiting to be unravelled.
But why traverse the icy expanse, and what destination awaits? These enigmas lie in the realm of interpretation, inviting you, dear audience, to infuse the scene with your own narrative, breathing life into the journey of the Pilgrims through the snow-laden landscape.
Throughout my journey as an artist, I’ve tried various surfaces & colours… From acrylics on boxed canvas to the refined oils on board I now employ. Each combination wields a distinct influence over the final outcome. Canvas imbues a rustic charm, its weave adding texture. For intricate details, only oil on board suffices, offering subtle nuances and unmatched ability to blend.
Yet, my attention extends beyond the artwork itself; the frames for Original Artworks hold equal significance. Through experience, I’ve learnt how a well-selected frame can elevate a piece, sometimes even reshaping its interpretation. Every choice, from canvas to frame, is a deliberate step towards crafting not just art, but an experience.
