On a misty autumn day much like the one outside as I’m typing this, the inspiration for ‘Rising Mist’ struck me. Venturing out for an early morning walk in the copse at the end of my driveway, I encountered a scene shrouded in a soft, ethereal mist. The feeble rays of the sun struggled to penetrate the milky veil of the sky, casting everything in a serene grey hue. Although I couldn’t spot them through the mist, I knew the hares were out there, somewhere in the field beyond.

Captivated by the tranquil atmosphere, I envisioned capturing this mood in a new painting. Collecting a few fallen leaves, I carefully dried them out and used their veiny undersides as improvised stamps, applying liberal amounts of paint to create intricate patterns on the canvas. This innovative technique, reminiscent of block printing, added depth and texture to the artwork, imbuing it with a sense of mystery and intrigue.

In contrast to many of my previous works, which often feature bright, summery colours, ‘Rising Mist’ remains a personal favourite for the evocative mood it conjures, capturing the quiet beauty of a misty autumn morning.

Our Fine-Art Prints use archival papers in two weights. For everything up to – and including – our ‘Signature Editions’, we use 210gsm Fotospeed Smooth; a versatile paper that offers exceptional contrast and detail. For the larger ‘Premium Editions’, we use Fotospeed’s 315gsm NST. Thanks to subtle textures similar to traditional etching papers, coupled to bright-white bases, both of these 100%-cotton, fine-art papers deliver revelatory, impactful images that will stand the test of time. Furthermore, we only ever use OEM inks that are rich in pigments & offer a consistent level of reproduction.
