Welcome to the enchanting realm of Purple Hare #1. It’s a happy continuation of the vibrant purple-tinged theme that has brought me much inspiration over the years.
With this second iteration, I sought to imbue the hare with a softer, more vulnerable feminine energy. This stands in stark contrast to the haughty and imperious aura of its successor, Purple Hare #2. To achieve this, I indulged in the creation of intricate “tendrils of colour”. This technique adorns its furry pelt, adding a delicate touch to its appearance. The deliberate use of colour draws inspiration directly from my ‘Rainbow Hares’ series, which was a prevalent influence during the creation of this piece. Upon reflection, I cannot help but acknowledge the unmistakable echoes of Van Gogh’s distinctive style—a homage that I wear with pride.
And if Purple Hare #1 appears somewhat startled, it is not without reason; the subject was caught off guard, turning away upon hearing the audible CLICK of Gary’s camera. This spontaneous moment only adds to the charm and authenticity of the artwork.
Throughout my journey as an artist, I’ve tried various surfaces & colours… From acrylics on boxed canvas to the refined oils on board I now employ. Each combination wields a distinct influence over the final outcome. Canvas imbues a rustic charm, its weave adding texture. For intricate details, only oil on board suffices, offering subtle nuances and unmatched ability to blend.
Yet, my attention extends beyond the artwork itself; the frames for Original Artworks hold equal significance. Through experience, I’ve learnt how a well-selected frame can elevate a piece, sometimes even reshaping its interpretation. Every choice, from canvas to frame, is a deliberate step towards crafting not just art, but an experience.
