After previously creating a rendition of this artwork in oils, I decided to revisit the Green Fox, this time using acrylics. Same Fox, same palette, same approach. Why? Because, despite the similarities, each medium interacts uniquely with the brush, necessitating adjustments to my technique to achieve optimal results. Besides, I relish the challenge of exploring different painting methods!
Although the end results may appear similar, I find myself leaning towards the acrylic rendition of Green Fox, hence why you’re presented with this version rather than the oil counterpart! I attribute this preference not only to my familiarity with acrylics but also to the inherent ‘rightness’ of the composition. It commences with my characteristic splashes of unexpected colour in the Fox’s tail and the confident brushstrokes defining its head.
Additionally, there’s the mint-green backdrop with its abstract tones, creating a harmonious visual narrative. It all comes together seamlessly.
In my journey as an artist, I’ve tried various surfaces & colours: from acrylics on boxed canvas to the refined oils on board I now employ. Each combination wields a distinct influence over the final outcome. Canvas imbues a rustic charm, its weave adding texture. For intricate details, only oil on board suffices, offering subtle nuances and unmatched blendability.
Yet, my attention extends beyond the artwork itself; the frames for Original Artworks hold equal significance. Through experience, I’ve learnt how a well-selected frame can elevate a piece, sometimes even reshaping its interpretation. Every choice, from canvas to frame, is a deliberate step towards crafting not just art, but an experience.
