Original Artwork, in Acrylics & Oils.
‘Golden Delicious’ intertwines two beloved creatures: the humble Donkey and the suggested addition of African Wild Dogs, a concept proposed by one of my esteemed collectors. The synergy between them proves both straightforward and impactful.
Accompanied by a trio of Wild Dogs, the Donkey and the Hornbill embark on a quest for sustenance, guided by the sight of one of the King’s legendary ‘magical trees.’ Similar to the tree depicted in ‘Harvest For the King,’ this arboreal marvel boasts an improbable abundance of fruits, ranging from Granny Smiths to the coveted Golden Delicious.
While the impulsive Wild Dogs are fixated on physical nourishment, the wise Donkey seeks something deeper. His attention narrows to the mythical ‘Apple of Wisdom,’ hanging from a lower branch. This golden fruit, steeped in Greek mythology, symbolizes enlightenment and knowledge, a treasure not lost on the sagacious Donkey.
Observe the Donkey’s serene countenance, exuding an air of tranquility and acceptance. It’s as if he always anticipated discovering the apple, knowing its transformative potential to dispel doubts, fears, and illusions.
And do take note: the apple’s shimmering allure is enhanced by the application of gold leaf, despite the challenges faced during its creation on an unexpectedly scorching day. Lessons learned, yet the outcome remains a testament to perseverance and artistic innovation.
Throughout my journey as an artist, I’ve tried various surfaces & colours… From acrylics on boxed canvas to the refined oils on board I now employ. Each combination wields a distinct influence over the final outcome. Canvas imbues a rustic charm, its weave adding texture. For intricate details, only oil on board suffices, offering subtle nuances and unmatched ability to blend.
Yet, my attention extends beyond the artwork itself; the frames for Original Artworks hold equal significance. Through experience, I’ve learnt how a well-selected frame can elevate a piece, sometimes even reshaping its interpretation. Every choice, from canvas to frame, is a deliberate step towards crafting not just art, but an experience.
