‘For Every Lock’ stands as a testament to ambition and accomplishment, marking a pinnacle in my collection of paintings. If there’s a central theme to this work, it’s the notion that solutions to life’s challenges often manifest in unexpected ways… Perhaps even through the auspices of a Peacock perched atop a Javan Rhino.
Let’s delve into the intricacies. The artwork’s title is a play on the common phrase “For Every Lock, There is a Key.” It’s embodied by the sight of a golden key clutched firmly in the beak of an albino Peacock. The lock remains open to interpretation, inviting viewers to engage their imagination.
Originally named ‘The Ambassador,’ the Peacock exudes an air of dignified grace, symbolizing a visiting emissary bearing a ceremonial key. Notably, the Peacock’s painstakingly detailed feathering was a laborious endeavor, with even the slightest imperfections adding to its realism.
The Javan Rhino, a majestic yet critically endangered creature, carries its passengers through the dense jungle, illuminated by the Rhino’s horn magically transformed into a lantern. Adorned with ornate jewels, the lantern casts a gentle glow, guiding the way through the darkness.
Perched between the Rhino’s ears, a Javan Tree Shrew, distinguished by its fez, symbolizes significance. Ahead, a Javan Scops Owl scouts the path, its delicate armour contrasting with the Rhino’s robust form.
The recurring motif of Java underscores the painting’s thematic coherence, weaving a narrative thread that binds together elements of mystery, adventure, and discovery.
