Original Artwork, in Acrylics & Oils.
Every time the Walrus returns to shore, he regales eager listeners with tales of his deep-sea encounters. He’s well-known as ‘The Old Man of the Sea’. Perched attentively nearby are a group of Fairy Terns and Woodpeckers. Their razor-sharp beaks are poised to etch the tales into the thick blubber of the ancient mariner. A closer look reveals intricate engravings depicting a myriad of sea creatures. We glimpse majestic whales & elusive octopuses, meticulously crafted by the Fairy Terns.
Hovering above, more Fairy Terns meticulously polish the brass adornments of the Old Man’s Steampunk-inspired goggles and headpiece. They use seaweed scraps, adding a touch of gleaming brilliance to his ensemble. The detailed craftsmanship of these elements, particularly the delicate embossing of the headband and the clarity of the goggles’ lenses, stand as a testament to the artist’s skill and dedication.
Yet, not all encounters recounted by the Walrus are amicable. Consider the sturdy bronzed bracket securing a fractured ivory tusk. It hints at past skirmishes with formidable adversaries. Additionally, the attentive observer may notice the Pileated Woodpecker. It is diligently restoring a missing sapphire on the Walrus’s carving of a Giant Squid, showcasing the intricate details of both the artwork and the Woodpecker’s ornate armour.
Standing over a meter tall, ‘The Old Man of the Sea’ represents a monumental artistic endeavor, from the painstaking creation of intricate stencils to the meticulous painting process that spanned over two months. The meticulous attention to detail, from the Walrus’s bristles to the finely crafted engravings, epitomizes the artist’s unwavering commitment to his craft and the creation of this captivating masterpiece.
Throughout my journey as an artist, I’ve tried various surfaces & colours… From acrylics on boxed canvas to the refined oils on board I now employ. Each combination wields a distinct influence over the final outcome. Canvas imbues a rustic charm, its weave adding texture. For intricate details, only oil on board suffices, offering subtle nuances and unmatched ability to blend.
Yet, my attention extends beyond the artwork itself; the frames for Original Artworks hold equal significance. Through experience, I’ve learnt how a well-selected frame can elevate a piece, sometimes even reshaping its interpretation. Every choice, from canvas to frame, is a deliberate step towards crafting not just art, but an experience.
