Original Artwork, in Oils & Acrylics.
In the captivating scene depicted in “Night Mail,” we are thrust into a moment of suspense and intrigue. The intrepid Hare-Courier, accompanied by his steadfast Squirrel companion, has come to an unexpected standstill. Their journey, typically marked by determination and purpose, grinds to a halt… Their keen eyes catch sight of the weathered skull of a mythical Jackalope lying ominously at the roadside.
The significance of this discovery is underscored by the presence of an Amethyst nearby, casting a shadow of doubt and uncertainty over their mission. After all: what jewels adorn the Hare’s chest? Amethysts! This must be all that’s left of ‘the missing courier!’ With their attention diverted from their precious cargo of wax-sealed scrolls and parcels, their immediate concern turns to a new possibility… That they may be the next targets of whatever sinister force lurks in the shadows.
And they have ample reason to be nervous, for what DOES lurk in the shadows? Could they be… eyes?
But amidst the suspense, the painting offers a wealth of intriguing details to discover. The graceful rise and fall of the lamp, reminiscent of the mesmerising lure of the deep-sea Angler Fish, captivates the imagination. Additionally, we have the Hare’s distinctive adornments. They begin with the engraved ear-caps bearing the emblem of the ‘Ace of Spades’ (obviously a fan of Heavy Metal!). He also has a pair of expensive goggles, that allow him to see in the dark… Lastly, if you look VERY CLOSE at the engraved ‘petals’ on his flank, you’ll spot clues as to the variety of creatures he’s met on his travels…
Throughout my journey as an artist, I’ve tried various surfaces & colours… From acrylics on boxed canvas to the refined oils on board I now employ. Each combination wields a distinct influence over the final outcome. Canvas imbues a rustic charm, its weave adding texture. For intricate details, only oil on board suffices, offering subtle nuances and unmatched ability to blend.
Yet, my attention extends beyond the artwork itself; the frames for Original Artworks hold equal significance. Through experience, I’ve learnt how a well-selected frame can elevate a piece, sometimes even reshaping its interpretation. Every choice, from canvas to frame, is a deliberate step towards crafting not just art, but an experience.
