The inception of Paddle Steamer mirrored the typical genesis of Ann’s work. It was sparked by the desire to encapsulate a singular aspect of nature’s allure. Entranced by the resplendent emerald-green sheen adorning a Drake’s slender neck, Ann found herself enamored by its beauty, pondering how best to translate its radiance onto canvas.
As her imagination took flight, envisioning a delicate crested helmet bedecked with sparkling jewels and billowing streamers, the scene unfolded. Another whimsical addition, a second balloon, lends an air of buoyant charm to the composition.
With further contemplation, the Drake metamorphosed into a maritime vessel, ferrying a seasick Toad upon its back. Clinging to his Fez amidst the spray, the Toad’s presence added a touch of whimsy and a subtle lesson in persuasion.
Notably, a jewelled pendant hanging from the Drake’s collar hinted at a whimsical ‘weather predictor.’ Its emerald gleam signalling a calm voyage while the ruby’s glow forewarned of impending turbulence.
Adding depth to the tableau, Ann introduced a Sturgeon, its presence injecting a dynamic energy into the scene. Yet, perhaps most satisfying of all was the masterful rendition of a radiant shaft of sunlight piercing through brooding storm clouds, surpassing even Ann’s own expectations.
Throughout my journey as an artist, I’ve tried various surfaces & colours… From acrylics on boxed canvas to the refined oils on board I now employ. Each combination wields a distinct influence over the final outcome. Canvas imbues a rustic charm, its weave adding texture. For intricate details, only oil on board suffices, offering subtle nuances and unmatched ability to blend.
Yet, my attention extends beyond the artwork itself; the frames for Original Artworks hold equal significance. Through experience, I’ve learnt how a well-selected frame can elevate a piece, sometimes even reshaping its interpretation. Every choice, from canvas to frame, is a deliberate step towards crafting not just art, but an experience.
